HYDERABAD: Union Minister of State for Home Bandi Sanjay Kumar on February 19 alleged that the Telangana government trifurcated the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) to “please” the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM).

He said the decision to split GHMC into Cyberabad, Greater Hyderabad and Malkajgiri municipal corporations was taken without consulting the public, local Members of Parliament (MPs) or Members of the Legislative Assembly (MLAs), and without holding an all-party meeting.

‘Unilateral decision without public opinion’

Speaking to reporters after an independent corporator from Karimnagar joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Kumar said people of Hyderabad were “angry” over the move.

“People of Hyderabad are angry that the Chief Minister (A Revanth Reddy) has handed over Hyderabad to AIMIM as if it is his ancestral property. Public opinion was not taken. Views of local MP and MLAs were not obtained. No all-party meeting was held. It was unilateral. Nothing is more shameless than trifurcating as per the orders of Darussalam,” he said, referring to the AIMIM headquarters.

Kumar said the chief minister had not explained the reasons for trifurcating the civic body. He alleged that the move was aimed at dividing votes and the Hindu community ahead of the upcoming civic body elections.

“The corporations of Mumbai and Chennai have not been divided despite their huge populations and budgets,” he said.

Alleges corruption, promises protests

Kumar also alleged that the Congress government was trying to appease a community for political gains. He accused it of using “Telangana’s income” to promote the party nationally.

Terming the Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) as “Telangana Corruption, Collection, Commission Congress”, he said he was collecting evidence against “Congress ministers”.

“We have it all. From whom you have taken commissions. With regard to many ministers, we have audio records also,” he said.

He alleged that some Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officers were assisting ministers in corruption. The BJP would hold agitations at ministers’ offices, homes and in their constituencies, he added.

Kumar claimed that the Congress, Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) and AIMIM attempted to stall the BJP in the recent municipal elections. He further alleged a tacit understanding between the BRS and Congress for sharing power.

However, he said some BRS corporators had offered to support the BJP “if need be”, though the party leadership sought to back the Congress.

The Union minister said the Narendra Modi government would remain in power till the goal of ‘Viksit Bharat’ is achieved in 2047. He claimed the Congress would not be in power in any state in 2029.

He said the BJP would win elections whenever they are held for the three municipal corporations in Hyderabad and in other corporations, including Warangal and Khammam.
