Bandaru Dattatreya Questions Delay in Kaleshwaram Repairs

GODAVARIKHANI: Former Haryana Governor Bandaru Dattatreya alleged that the state government lacks sincerity in carrying out repairs to the Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Project, which was built at a cost of about ₹1 lakh crore.
NDSA report highlights need for repairs
Dattatreya, who visited Godavarikhani, expressed concern over the condition of the Kaleshwaram project. He said the National Dam Safety Authority (NDSA) had already submitted a clear report on the Medigadda Barrage, but the state government was showing negligence in undertaking the required repair works.
He criticised the situation in which the Kaleshwaram project, constructed at a cost of about ₹1 lakh crore, was currently unable to serve farmers and the public effectively. He alleged that the government was not demonstrating the required commitment to restore the project.
Farmers face irrigation challenges in north Telangana
Dattatreya said farmers in the northern Telangana districts were facing severe difficulties due to a shortage of irrigation water. He noted that the three major barrages constructed as part of the Kaleshwaram project were currently without water, describing the situation as a matter of concern.
Dattatreya seeks immediate government action
He demanded that the state government undertake comprehensive repairs to the Kaleshwaram project and take steps to ensure irrigation water reaches farmers. Providing adequate irrigation facilities to farmers is the responsibility of the state government, Dattatreya said.
