Balapur Police Remand Serial Burglar in Gold Theft Case

HYDERABAD : Balapur police have remanded a habitual offender in connection with a gold jewellery theft reported in Online Colony.

According to Inspector Sudhakar, the accused, Saleem, 52, son of Mohammed Jahangir and a resident of Shaheen Nagar’s Online Colony, is also known by the aliases Sunil Shetty and Ibrahim. He works as a painter for newly constructed houses and stays wherever he finds work in the city.

Police link accused to multiple thefts

Police said the accused allegedly targeted locked houses and, in some cases, homes occupied by residents, carrying out thefts after dark. Investigators said he has been involved in 78 theft cases across the city and had previously been arrested and jailed in several cases.

After being released from prison, he allegedly resumed work as a painter while maintaining a low profile, police said.

CCTV footage helps crack recent theft

About a week ago, gold jewellery was stolen from a house in Online Colony. Following a complaint from the homeowner, Balapur police launched an investigation.

Using CCTV footage, police identified and detained Saleem, a known offender. During questioning, he allegedly confessed to the theft, police said.

Police produced the accused before a court and remanded him on Friday. Gold and silver ornaments were recovered from his possession.
