Woman injured in an explosion at a garbage dump in Hyderabad’s Balanagar

Hyderabad: A woman has been injured in an explosion at a garbage dump in the city on Thursday. It is reported that an attempt to open a container in the garbage dump at Ranga Reddy Nagar in Balanagar caused the explosion.
The scavenger identified as 35-year-old Neelamma received minor injuries on her lower limbs. She has been admitted to a nearby hospital and her condition was stated to be stable.
As per reports, as usual Neelamma was clearing the garbage heaps to find the discarded items and she found a small metal container which possibly contained some chemical substance. The container exploded with a huge noise when she tapped on it with a stick. The blast echoed through the locality leading to a panic situation among the local residents.
The locals immediately informed the Balanagar police who rushed to the spot and gathered details about the explosion. The police officials enquired the locals and are also checking the footage from surveillance cameras installed in the neighborhood. The container along with the traces of substance have been sent to the forensic team for evaluation.
In a separate incident, the Balanagar police said the locals found a body of an unidentified man in Jinkalawadi on Thursday afternoon. The police suspected that the victim, who is in his forties, was bludgeoned to death.
Upon receiving a call from the locals, the police reached the spot and shifted the body to a mortuary at Gandhi Hospital for postmortem. They are examining the footage from the surveillance camera to establish the identity of the dead body.
