Hyderabad: In a move to address social inequities, the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) has submitted a representation to the Telangana State Commission for Backward Classes Chairman Busani Venkateswara Rao, calling for a significant expansion of reservation quotas for backward communities on Friday.
Recalling the election planks in the run-off to the Telangana General Assembly elections,2023, the BC declaration, which assured increased BC reservation based on caste census and BC commission report within six months of assuming power. It also promised 42% reservations for BCs in government civil contracts and maintenance contracts.
The representation submitted by AIMIM leader Akbaruddin Owaisi follows the Telangana Government’s recent reconstitution of the BC Commission in September 2024. Further, AIMIM suggested the Telangana government take cues from Karnataka and Kerala, which provided reservations to the entire Muslim community. They criticized the division of Muslims into different groups termed as ‘artificial caste’ groups.
