Bachupally Residents Reel Under Sharp Chemical Odours

BACHUPALLY: Residents of Bachupally and surrounding localities say pungent chemical odours have intensified over the past 15 days, leaving many with burning eyes and dizziness. Several families told reporters they are unable to step outdoors during early mornings and evenings because the air has become difficult to breathe.
Chemical fumes from nearby industrial zones
Bachupally borders the Industrial Development Areas of Bollaram and Khazipally in Sangareddy district. Residents said several chemical units operate barely a short distance from residential colonies. According to them, once night falls, fumes from one unit or another spread through the area. Sharp smells linger till dawn, forcing people to stay indoors.
A hyperlocal Instagram creator with Bachupally buzz have shared reels about the pollution and rising complaints from the residents.

No action despite long-standing complaints
Air pollution has been a persistent problem across areas under Nizampet Municipal Corporation. Residents said the situation has remained unchanged since the panchayat era. They added that Telangana State Pollution Control Board officials have not taken any corrective action.
Because the fumes are mostly released at night, residents said complaints are rarely attended to. Locals recalled that people near Pragathi Nagar, ALEAP raised similar concerns earlier and even staged a week-long protest, but no action followed.
Residents want the Pollution Control Board to identify the source of the fumes and ensure strict enforcement.
‘Fumes harming our health’: Lakshmi Nipun
“We moved to Bachupally for a peaceful life. We bought an apartment and shifted a year ago. Now we regret coming here,” resident Lakshmi Nipun said.
“Chemical fumes are released almost every day. They are harming our health like slow poison. Officials are not responding. Criminal cases must be filed against industries responsible for the pollution,” she added.
