Hyderabad: Bachupally residents stage protest against industrial pollution

Hyderabad: Residents of Bachupally held a protest on Sunday against the ongoing industrial pollution in the area. Scores of residents turned up for the protest rally. They were holding placards with slogans like, “Seize TFL – No more toxic air”, “If you don’t kill the pollution, it will kill you”, “TFL earning profits on our health,” “Stop pollution.”
The other slogans read, “Pollution free air is our birthright,” “Save us from industrial pollution,” “PCB Jaago, Industrial pollution Bhaago.”
“We need to educate every individual in our locality about the harmful effects of air pollution. We will keep holding these protests until the government machinery takes notice of our concern and addresses the issue,” one of the organisers told the gathering.
One of the residents stated that the chemical smell from nearby factories has been leaking heavily for the last few days. This has been a daily issue for the past one or two months, especially at night. The gases are affecting our eyes, causing burning sensations, and it’s becoming difficult to breathe in the polluted air.
The locals have claimed that the industrial pollution issues have persisted for the past five years. We have repeatedly brought this matter to the notice of the Telangana State Pollution Control Board (TGPCB) officials and other authorities, no concrete action has been taken so far, they added.

Frustrated by the alleged inaction of the authorities, the residents of Bachupally have decided to take the matter into their own hands. They are now planning to stage similar protests frequently to force the PCB authorities to initiate action on their complaints.
Earlier, residents of KRCR Colony in Bachupally also raised similar concerns about a strong, unpleasant chemical smell that has been affecting their daily lives. Gopi Krishna, a resident of KRCR Colony since 2008, stated, “Pollution has been a persistent issue here. Even our local MLA has participated in rallies and protests organised by Haritha Vanam, but there has been no positive outcome.”
