Bachupally Residents To Protest Against Industrial Pollution On April 13

Hyderabad: As the air quality is not improving in the locality despite submitting numerous complaints to the Pollution Control Board, the residents of Bachupally have decided to hit the streets.

With an aim to raise awareness and demand concrete steps to tackle the growing threat of air pollution, the former corporator Vijayalakshmi Subbarao has given a call for protest at 10 am near ITC in Bolarum on Sunday, April 13, 2025. She urged residents of the area to participate in large numbers and make the protest a success.

Vijayalakshmi said it’s high time locals come together to collectively raise their voices against the growing air pollution, which has become a major issue not just for future generations but for our lives today. While pollution may not be visible to the naked eye, it has a serious impact on everyone’s health, she added.

The local residents have been protesting against the persistent industrial pollution in the area. Last month, a protest rally was held at Bachupally. The protesters also staged a dharna and resorted to road blockade in the locality.

Subsequently, the members of the Bachupally Area Welfare Association, along with former corporator Vijayalakshmi Subbarao met with the Chief Environmental Engineer (CEE) of the Telangana Pollution Control Board (TGPCB) in Sanath Nagar and submitted a representation to him, highlighting the problems being faced by them. In their formal complaint, the residents  pointed out the indiscriminate release of chemical waste by nearby factories and its effect on the health of residents.

On this occasion, the Chief Environmental Engineer (CEE) of the Pollution Control Board assured the residents that regular inspections of factories are being carried out daily. During these inspections, maintenance issues with the treatment equipment were identified, and notices have been issued to modernize these systems. The vigilance team has also been instructed to conduct checks starting at 4 pm every day.
