Patancheru: A task force from the Telangana Commissioner of Food Safety conducted inspections in the Patancheru area on October 1, 2024, revealing multiple food safety violations at Babai Hotel, Kakatiya Military Hotel, and Silver Bawarchi Restaurant & Bakers.

Babai Hotel

During the raid at Babai Hotel, officials found that the establishment did not have a valid FSSAI license, with the owner stating it was still in the application stage. The task force observed a live cockroach infestation within the kitchen and storeroom.

Additionally, food items stored in the refrigerator were neither covered nor properly labelled. Expired raw food items, including papad and shah jeera, were identified and discarded on the spot. The kitchen’s windows lacked insect-proof screens, and the doors were not properly fitted to prevent pest entry.

Furthermore, medical fitness certificates for food handlers and a water analysis report for the bubbling water used in food preparation were unavailable. However, food handlers were seen wearing hair caps and aprons.

Kakatiya Military Hotel

Officials discovered that Kakatiya Military Hotel was operating without a valid FSSAI license. Similar to the Babai Hotel, a live cockroach infestation was found in the kitchen and storeroom.

Food in the refrigerator was also uncovered and improperly labelled. The refrigerators were in unsanitary conditions, and items like mustard sauce, poppy seeds, pepper masala, and various sauces were found past their expiry dates, and officials discarded them subsequently.

The establishment’s doors were inadequately fitted to keep pests out, and drains were found to have spillage and stagnant water. Medical fitness certificates for food handlers, pest control records, and water analysis reports were unavailable.

Silver Bawarchi Restaurant & Bakers

Silver Bawarchi Restaurant displayed a valid FSSAI license, but a live cockroach infestation was observed in the kitchen on storage racks. Some food articles in the refrigerator were improperly covered or labelled.

Expired items were identified and discarded, including dark soy sauce, Puratos brand premix, and vanilla flavouring agents. The kitchen’s flooring and walls had broken tiles and uneven surfaces, resulting in water stagnation.

Medical fitness certificates for food handlers and water analysis reports were also missing. Additionally, biscuits and other bakery items sold on the premises were found without proper labels.
