Attapur’s sewerage overflow continues for months, residents demand action
Hyderabad: Attapur residents have been expressing significant frustration over deteriorating road conditions and ongoing sewerage issues near Janapriya Utopia Road for the past two months. The situation has led to an increase in seasonal diseases, prompting residents to call for urgent intervention from the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) and Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWSSB) authorities.
The issue was highlighted on social media by TG Citizen (@Citizen_TS), who tagged the GHMC Commissioner, GHMC official handle, GHMC Mayor, and local area officials on September 13, 2024. TG Citizen’s post read, “Why are these roads left without any sweeping? It’s very dangerous for commuters. HMWSSB, when will this sewerage issue be fixed?”

In response, the Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWSSB) official handle acknowledged the complaint, stating, “Good afternoon. The complaint was registered with Token No: 2306 and intimated to the concerned officials, the Hyderguda Section Manager, to rectify as early as possible. Thank you.”
Speaking with the Hyderabad Mail, TG Citizen who wants to remain anonymous, explained the severity of the situation. “The road conditions are deplorable. It is extremely dangerous for commuters. The road requires daily sweeping and maintenance.”
TG Citizen brought attention to the ongoing sewerage problem, stating that it has been overflowing onto the road for the last two months. No sweeping has been done, leading to an accumulation of sand. This specifically affects Janapriya Utopia Road in Attapur. The citizen expressed frustration, questioning why officials wait for someone to report these issues instead of proactively addressing them. The citizen also raised concerns about accountability for the staff members responsible and questioned when the Zonal Commissioner of Charminar last reviewed these critical issues or met with all DCs, AEs, etc.
Residents are asking the GHMC to promptly address these concerns to alleviate the problems affecting their daily lives.
