Deer meat sale: Accused arrested in Attapur

Hyderabad:Â Police arrested a man for illegally selling deer meat in the Attapur police station limits, triggering concern over wildlife crime in the city.

Shortly after the arrest, police recovered 15 kg of deer meat, the animal’s skin and head, along with ₹3,500 in cash from the accused.
Meat sourced from Kurnool district
Police said the accused had brought the meat from Pebberu in Kurnool district of Andhra Pradesh and was selling it in the city at ₹800 per kg.
Case booked under Wildlife Protection Act
The accused was handed over to Attapur police, who registered a case under the Wildlife Protection Act, police said.
Acting on specific information, Special Operations Team personnel detained Irfanuddin while he was allegedly selling deer meat in Suleman Nagar, under the Attapur police station limits.
Police seized 15 kg of deer meat, along with the animal’s skin and head, and ₹3,500 in cash from him. Investigators said the meat was transported from Pebberu in Kurnool district and sold locally at ₹800 per kg.
The accused was later handed over to Attapur police. A case has been registered under the Wildlife Protection Act, police added.
