Hyderabad: 23-year-old man handed three-year prison sentence for assaulting minor girl

Hyderabad: A 23-year-old youth was sentenced to three years of rigorous imprisonment in the sexual assault case registered at Saroornagr in 2019.
The Fast Track Special Judge of Rangareddy district also imposed a fine of Rs. 5,000 on him. The court also ordered a compensation of Rs. 1 lakh to the victim.
The court found Sumanth Reddy guilty of harassing a minor girl. Following the incident, a case was registered against him at the Saroornagar police station under Sections 354-D and 420 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and Section 8 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
Sumantth Reddy, resident of Korivenigudem village in Nalgonda district, befriended a minor student while working as a computer operator at a private college.
He was found guilty of extorting money from the girl, forcing her to send inappropriate photographs and threatening to upload her private photos on the internet. One day he barged into her house and behaved indecently with her. The girl along with her family members filed a complaint with Saroornagar police and a case was registered (643/2025).
Last month, Mohd Idris, a resident of Jalpally, was convicted and sentenced to 10 year imprisonment in a POCSO case that was reported at Pahadishareef in 2019. The court also imposed a fine of Rs. 15,000 on the convict while the victim was awarded a compensation of Rs. 3 lakh.
Idris was convicted of luring a minor boy to a secluded place and sexually assaulting him. Based on a complaint, the Pahadishareef police registered a case under Section 377 of IPC and POCSO Act against Idris and arrested him.
