Asifabad records 60% surge in crimes in 2025, property offences lead rise
ASIFABAD: Crime in Kumram Bheem Asifabad district rose sharply by over 60 percent in 2025 compared with the previous year, with police recording significant increases in property related offences, drug cases and traffic violations.
District Superintendent of Police Nitika Pant said the district registered 1,934 offences in 2025, against 1,207 cases in 2024, marking an increase of 60.23 percent. She released the annual crime report while briefing reporters in Asifabad on Monday.
Despite preventive measures, crimes such as house burglaries by night, thefts, culpable homicides, kidnappings, grievous hurt and cheating cases increased during the year, the SP said.
Property-related offences accounted for a major share, with 210 cases reported. These included one robbery, 19 cash thefts, 34 gold and silver thefts, 83 sand thefts, 10 copper wire thefts, five cattle thefts, nine automobile thefts and 49 other theft cases. Police estimated the total property loss at ₹1.06 crore, while property worth ₹23 lakh was recovered.
The district also saw a steep rise in traffic enforcement cases. Police booked 3,757 drunk-driving cases in 2025, compared with 1,290 cases in 2024, reflecting a 191 percent increase. A total of 1,04,526 e-challans were issued for traffic violations during the year, with fines amounting to ₹1.97 crore, up from 63,628 cases and ₹1.13 crore in fines in 2024.
On the law enforcement front, 46 accused were convicted in 2025, slightly lower than 48 convictions in 2024 and higher than 29 in 2023.
Drug-related offences also rose sharply. Police booked 73 cases against 122 persons under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act for smuggling 15.24 kg of ganja and cultivating 1,118 cannabis plants, compared with 39 cases in the previous year.
To improve ground-level intelligence, police strengthened the Village Police Officer system. The district has 278 village police officers covering 868 villages. As part of visible policing, 126 cordon and search operations were conducted during the year, leading to the seizure of 200 litres of illicit liquor.
Deputy Superintendents of Police Karunakar and Waheeduddin, along with inspectors and sub-inspectors, were present during the briefing.
