Ashok Reddy reviews water board summer action plan

HYDERABAD: Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board Managing Director Ashok Reddy on Tuesday reviewed the board’s summer action plan at its Khairatabad headquarters.
Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board Executive Director Mayank Mittal, directors and senior officials attended the meeting.
Works to be completed by March 31
The review covered sanctioned water supply and sewerage works, soak pits, de-silting, tanker deliveries and allied activities. Reddy said one chief general manager has been appointed as nodal officer for each of the 12 circles to implement the summer plan.
He instructed officials to complete all approved drinking water and sewerage works by March 31, following a circle-wise action plan. Safety and quality must be prioritised during execution, he said, adding that debris generated after works should be cleared regularly.
Road restoration taken up after excavations should be completed by the last week of April, he said, and asked officials to finish monsoon-related road restoration early to avoid inconvenience to residents.
18,000 soak pits in 90 days
Reddy directed officials to construct 18,000 soak pits within the Outer Ring Road limits over the next 90 days. Each nodal officer was asked to plan 2,000 soak pits and submit proposals for approvals.
He said soak pits are required for every house on 200 square yards, and are mandatory for premises above 300 square yards. To boost groundwater from the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation area up to the Outer Ring Road, officials were asked to work with focus and urgency.
Reddy also said revenue rules are being amended to make soak pit construction mandatory while sanctioning new water connections.
De-silting drive
Officials were directed to complete de-silting of all sewerage lines and manholes across the board’s jurisdiction within the next four months, without additional expenditure. A special 90-day action plan to resolve long-pending issues must be completed by May, with all de-silting works finished by the end of the month.
The special drive began on October 2, 2024. So far, de-silting has been completed at 48,887 locations, covering 6,285 km of sewer pipelines and 4.87 lakh manholes. As a result, daily sewerage complaints have reduced by 20–30%, officials said.
24-hour tanker delivery
For the coming summer, Reddy directed officials to ensure tanker water delivery within 24 hours of booking. Additional filling stations and points are being set up, and extra tankers should be arranged if required to meet demand.
Technical Director Sudarshan, Personnel Director Mohammed Abdul Khader, Project Director Sridhar, Operations Director Vinod Bhargava, CGMs, GMs and other officials attended the meeting.
