HYDERABAD: Managing Director of the Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board Ashok Reddy on Wednesday inspected several ongoing water supply and sewage infrastructure projects under the board’s jurisdiction.

The projects reviewed included the Godavari Phase 2 and 3 water supply works, sewage treatment plants under the AMRUT 2.0 programme, and the comprehensive drinking water supply scheme for Neopolis. The visit began at Khanapur, where Reddy reviewed construction progress of the water treatment plant being built as part of the Godavari Phase 2 and 3 projects.

During discussions on Neopolis infrastructure, Reddy reviewed land allocation proposals for the balancing reservoir, pumping station and water treatment plant planned to ensure integrated drinking water supply. He held consultations with senior officials of the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority and stressed the need for prudent land decisions, keeping long-term water demand in view.

He also asked HMDA officials to submit detailed drawings, including elevation levels, of the drinking water pipelines and sewerage networks already developed in the Neopolis area.

The water board is constructing two reservoirs of 2.5 million litres capacity each to supply drinking water to Neopolis. Reddy reviewed the areas that could be served through gravity-based supply from these reservoirs. Noting the high land value in Neopolis, he suggested exploring the feasibility of constructing the reservoirs in a multi-level format, similar to a two-floor structure, so that the remaining land could be utilised for future requirements. Officials were directed to examine the technical viability of this proposal.

Later, Reddy inspected sewage infrastructure works taken up to prevent untreated wastewater from entering the twin reservoirs. As part of this initiative, he reviewed construction of a 4 million litres per day sewage treatment plant being built near Bulkapur Nala at Janwada.

He assessed progress of the primary treatment unit and sought details of the catchment areas feeding the plant. Officials were instructed to prepare a plan for constructing trunk mains to divert sewage from surrounding villages to the facility. Reddy emphasised coordination with HMDA, the irrigation department and HYDRA authorities to ensure timely execution.

HMDA Metropolitan Joint Commissioner (Sub-Urban) Upendra Reddy, Water Board Project Director T V Sridhar, general managers, senior HMDA officials, representatives of construction agencies and site engineers were present during the inspections.
