Ashok Reddy asks officials to speed up Musi STP works

HYDERABAD:Â Ashok Reddy, managing director of the Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board, has directed officials to accelerate civil works of sewage treatment plants being built as part of the Musi river rejuvenation programme.
During an inspection on Wednesday, Reddy reviewed the progress of a 34.5 million litres per day sewage treatment plant being constructed at Narsingi under Package-I of the AMRUT 2.0 scheme. The project is part of the larger plan to prevent untreated sewage from entering the Musi and to improve sanitation in Hyderabad.
Reddy sought details from officials and representatives of the construction agency on the pace of works. He instructed them to ensure that the Musi river is not damaged during the construction process.
He asked officials to identify points where sewage from nearby residential colonies enters the river and to divert this flow into the newly constructed STP by connecting pipelines on both sides of the river.
The MD also directed officials to prepare plans for laying sewerage trunk mains and sub-mains in catchment areas such as Kokapet and Narsingi, as well as other upstream and nearby localities, to channel sewage into the new STP. He said the works should be completed in coordination with Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation and the irrigation department.
Reddy stressed that construction should continue without interruption and asked officials to deploy adequate manpower, machinery and materials. He also instructed them to ensure safety measures at construction sites, including mandatory use of protective gear by workers and installation of barricades around work areas.
He said all works should be completed within the stipulated timeline, with the goal of completing the construction of all sewage treatment plants by the end of this year.
The inspection was attended by project director T V Sridhar, chief general managers Padmaja and Vasa Satyanarayana, general managers, representatives of construction agencies and site engineers.
