Who is Lacrosse star Anudeep Reddy?

HYDERABAD: Lacrosse, a sport popular in North America, resembles hockey in appearance. Players use a stick with a net to place the ball into the goal. After its inclusion in the 2028 Olympics, the sport is gaining attention in the Telugu states.
Anudeep Reddy, a resident of Suncity in Hyderabad, recently captained the Indian team at the Asian Lacrosse Cup and secured a gold medal.
Early interest shaped by hockey background
Anudeep Reddy’s parents, Rangareddy and Vijaya, work as teachers. He developed an interest in hockey during his school days and trained consistently in the sport.
“In 2023, I felt I should try lacrosse as well. I formed a team with a few others and practised daily,” he said.
Rise through national and international competitions
He participated in national-level competitions held in Udaipur in 2024. In November 2025, his team won a gold medal at the state-level tournament held near Patancheru.
In the same year, he represented India in open lacrosse competitions in Japan. In March 2026, he captained the Indian team at the Asian Lacrosse Games held in Saudi Arabia and won gold.
He has been performing consistently in junior and senior categories at state and national levels.
Olympic goal drives training
“Earlier, the sport had limited recognition as it was not part of the Olympics. Now that lacrosse is included in the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics, I am training with the aim of participating,” he said.
“My goal is to win a gold medal for India at the Olympics.”
