Another Ebola Suspect Admitted to Gandhi Hospital
HYDERABAD: The admission of suspected Ebola patients to Gandhi Hospital has triggered concern in Hyderabad. While 35-year-old Sudan national Ahmed is undergoing treatment in a special isolation ward, another Sudanese national, 23-year-old Abdul Razi Mohammed, was admitted to the hospital on Friday with symptoms associated with Ebola.
Doctors were relieved after Ahmed tested negative for Ebola. Gandhi Hospital received the test report from the National Institute of Virology (NIV), Pune. Health Minister Damodar Rajanarasimha announced the development on X and said the patient would remain in isolation for a few more days as a precaution.
Monitoring Continues Under Isolation Protocols
Doctors said samples were collected from the second patient admitted on Friday and sent for testing. Hospital authorities are continuing to monitor both cases under established isolation protocols.
Ebola Spreads Through Body Fluids, Not Air
“People arriving from African countries should consider remaining in isolation for a few days even if they do not show symptoms. Sudden fever, severe fatigue, muscle pain, headache and sore throat are among the initial symptoms. Since these symptoms are also common in malaria, dengue and typhoid, identifying Ebola can be difficult,” Ebola nodal officer Dr Sunil Kumar said.
He added: “In the second stage, symptoms may include vomiting, bloody diarrhoea, abdominal pain and skin rashes. Anyone experiencing such symptoms should seek medical attention immediately. Ebola does not spread through the air. It is transmitted through contact with infected body fluids, which places those in close contact with patients at greater risk.”
