Telangana Special Chief Secretary’s daughter adopts Greater One-Horned Rhino at Nehru Zoo

Hyderabad: Ishika Ranjan, the daughter of Jayesh Ranjan, the Special Chief Secretary of the ITE&C and Industries & Commerce Departments of the Government of Telangana, adopted a Greater One-Horned Rhinoceros on the occasion of her 20th birthday at Nehru Zoological Park in Hyderabad.

Accompanied by her family, including her grandmother, Ishika visited Nehru Zoological Park in Hyderabad, where she presented a cheque of Rs. 1,00,000 (One Lakh Rupees) for the adoption of the rhinoceros to Dr. Sunil S. Hiremath, IFS, Director (FAC) & Curator of the zoo. They also signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for the adoption program.

Following the presentation, Jayesh Ranjan and his family toured the elephant and rhinoceros enclosures, as well as other animal exhibits. They expressed their satisfaction with the maintenance and health of the animals. Dr. Hiremath briefed Jayesh Ranjan on the zoo’s operations and maintenance, and the Special Chief Secretary praised the improvements and developmental works undertaken at the park.

Ishika Ranjan, who has long been passionate about wildlife, expressed her enthusiasm for adopting the Greater One-Horned Rhinoceros, an endangered species. She reminisced about previous visits to the zoo and noted the significant advancements the park has made, positioning it competitively among other zoos both nationally and internationally.

She encouraged the public to support wildlife conservation by participating in the zoo’s adoption program or making donations. The adoption program allows individuals to adopt any animal at the zoo for periods ranging from one day to one year.

Dr. Sunil S. Hiremath thanked Ishika Ranjan and her family for their contribution and for raising awareness about the animal adoption scheme, highlighting the importance of such initiatives in supporting wildlife conservation efforts.

Nehru Zoological Park is located near Mir Alam Tank in Bahadurpura, Telangana, India. It is one of the most visited destinations in Hyderabad. Construction of Nehru Zoological Park began on October 26, 1959, and it opened to the public on October 6, 1963. The park is managed by the Forest Department of the Government of Telangana and is named after Jawaharlal Nehru, the first Prime Minister of India.
