Rural roots to digital fame: Youtuber Anil Geela’s journey from teacher to entrepreneur

HYDERABAD: In the quiet, pastoral lanes of Dargapalle village of Telangana, a young boy’s imagination once danced with dreams far bigger than his surroundings. Now, that same boy, Anil Geela, stands as a digital creator, actor, and entrepreneur whose journey from a rural mathematics teacher to a YouTube sensation with a million subscribers embodies the power of authentic storytelling. Taking it to the next level, Anil started GCS (Geela Creative Space), a Digital Marketing Agency to help growing businesses through social media.
Transition from teaching to creative space
Born on July 12, 1996, Anil’s childhood in Siddipet district was shaped by the simplicity and warmth of village life. Humility, hard work, and respect, learned early, became the foundation of his character. After earning a Diploma in Teacher Education from the Government DIET, Karimnagar, he started his career as a mathematics teacher.
It was during this time that Anil’s creative spark found its first outlet. Speaking about his journey, he said, “While using a mobile phone, I started recording unscripted moments from school life, yoga sessions, morning prayers, and candid public talk interviews with students. These genuine, heartfelt clips quickly resonated with viewers”.
Anil’s life took a pivotal turn when Srikanth, founder of the popular YouTube channel My Village Show, discovered his small educational videos. Impressed by Anil’s natural screen presence and relatable charm, Srikanth invited him to join the team. This collaboration catapulted Anil into the spotlight. “My Village Show gave me a big platform. Through it, I have portrayed village life with an authenticity that bypassed glamour and spoke directly to the heart,” said Anil to HyderabadMail.
The channel’s mix of comedy skits, festival celebrations, and slice-of-life vlogs resonated across the state. A standout moment was the village-style “Kiki Challenge,” performed on a bullock cart in paddy fields, showcasing the team’s skill at blending global trends with local flavor. By covering major projects like the Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Scheme with relatable curiosity and creating pandemic-era content that brought comfort through humor, Anil and the team showed that real stories from real people have unique power.
From YouTube to Mainstream media
Anil’s rise has been a case study in organic growth. His channel’s subscription milestones, 200K, 600K, 800K, and eventually crossing 1 million, were testaments to a loyal audience’s love.
Accolades and opportunities grew. As a creator, he represented rural creativity at YouTube FanFest among India’s top digital creators. He launched a Spotify-exclusive show, “Dhoora Muchchatlu,” sharing Telangana’s sounds and stories on audio platforms. Kerala Tourism invited him to participate in their #MyFirstTrip campaign, where he explored and presented “God’s Own Country” to his audience.
Not one to be confined to a single medium, Anil has successfully transitioned into acting. He made his mark in the OTT space with a role in ZEE5’s Hello World, playing a corporate employee, a character that allowed him to translate his observational humor into a scripted format while retaining his innate innocence. He has also shared screen space with established Telugu film actors, fulfilling a childhood dream without losing his roots.
As an Entrepreneur
Beyond entertainment, Anil has turned his vision to entrepreneurship. He is the co-founder of Safri Tours and Travels and the founder of GCS Digital Marketing Agency, ventures that show his growth from content creator to business leader.
GCS, Anil’s brainchild, became a thriving reality after a year of groundwork. Starting from scratch, he trained a team of 20, many of whom were new to computers, giving them essential digital skills. Today, this team creates trending reels and impactful content, driving business growth and showing the power of vision-led mentorship and perseverance.
Anil said he was elated to be recognized and invited to the recent Google Startup Hub event in Hyderabad. This time, he attended not as a creator but as a startup founder. He says this has strengthened his resolve to pursue such endeavors further.
