HYDERABAD: The Telangana High Court on Tuesday dismissed a petition filed by Angur Bai, popularly known as the ‘Ganja Lady Don’, challenging the Preventive Detention (PD) Act invoked against her.

A division bench upheld the Hyderabad Collector’s order issued on April 15, continuing the PD Act against her. The court noted that multiple criminal cases were pending against Angur Bai.

Advisory board backed PD Act

According to officials, Dhoolpet Excise Circle Inspector Madhubabu and Special Task Force team leader Anji Reddy had submitted a detailed proposal to the government’s advisory board recommending the PD Act against her. Based on the board’s advice, then Hyderabad Collector Anudeep Durishetty issued the detention orders.

Petition dismissed after hearing both sides

Angur Bai recently filed a petition in the High Court seeking to quash the detention order. After hearing arguments from both sides, the court dismissed the plea, observing that the PD Act would continue to apply to her.
