Amgen to invest $200 mn in Hyderabad expansion by 2025

Hyderabad: Amgen, the largest biotechnology company in the United States, has launched its new technology and innovation site at Shilpa Gram Craft, Madhapur, Hyderabad, on Monday, February 24, 2025.
The site was inaugurated by Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy and Minister for IT and Industries D. Sridhar Babu at the Amgen office campus near HITEC City.
Amgen Chairman and CEO Robert A. Bradway, U.S. Consul General Jennifer Larson, Amgen India representative Som Chattopadhyay, and Amgen India Managing Director Naveen Gullapalli also attended the event.
As part of the expansion, Amgen plans to invest $200 million (approximately ₹1,600 crores) by 2025, with additional investments expected in the coming years. This expansion is expected to create job opportunities in the biopharma sector. Amgen will also expand its operations in the state to develop its range of medicines further. The new site will focus on digital capabilities, leveraging AI and data science.
Earlier, Amgen announced plans in August 2024 to set up a major research and development center in Hyderabad. Located in a six-storey building in HITEC City, the center is expected to generate around 3,000 new jobs. The announcement follows a visit by Industries Minister D. Sridhar Babu, Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, and senior officials to Amgen’s R&D center in San Francisco. During the visit, an agreement was signed formalizing the establishment of the Hyderabad center.
Amgen operates in over 100 countries and employs approximately 27,000 people worldwide.
