Amgen to Set Up Research and Innovation Centre in Telangana’s Genome Valley
HYDERABAD: Biotechnology major Amgen is set to establish a research and innovation centre at Genome Valley, further strengthening its presence in Telangana.
The company signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Telangana government at the Secretariat on Tuesday. IT and Industries Minister D Sridhar Babu was present during the signing.
Earlier, Amgen India representatives met Sridhar Babu and discussed the company’s plans to expand its operations in Hyderabad.
Following the meeting, Amgen India managing director Naveen Gullapalli and Telangana Industries and Commerce special secretary Krishna Aditya exchanged the MoU documents.
Sridhar Babu seeks jobs for local talent
Sridhar Babu said the proposed research centre would create new employment opportunities for local talent. He also urged Amgen to give priority to youth from Telangana during recruitment.
Meanwhile, the minister recalled that Amgen had recently established a large global capability centre (GCC) in Hyderabad with around 3,000 employees.
He said the growing confidence of leading pharmaceutical companies in Telangana was a matter of pride for the state. The minister also welcomed Telangana’s emergence as a major destination for life sciences companies.
According to Sridhar Babu, Telangana has become an attractive destination for global life sciences companies due to its skilled workforce, world-class infrastructure and established ecosystem. Genome Valley, he added, remains a key part of this ecosystem.
Amgen operates in nearly 100 countries
Amgen operates in nearly 100 countries and develops treatments for serious health conditions. Its areas of focus include cancer, cardiovascular diseases, bone health disorders, inflammation, respiratory diseases and rare diseases.
The MoU signing was attended by Industries and Commerce special secretary Krishna Aditya, Industries Commissioner Nikhil Chakravarthi, Telangana Life Sciences CEO Sarvesh Singh, Amgen India managing director Naveen Gullapalli, executive director Sreenu Kosaraju and Anumitha, among others.
