Hyderabad: St. Francis College for Women, Begumpet, in collaboration with American Corner Hyderabad, organized the Model United Nations (MUN) Conference 2025 on February 3-4. The two-day event brought together students from various institutions to engage in debates and discussions on global issues, fostering leadership and diplomatic skills.

In her address, Dr. Uma Joseph, Principal of St. Francis College, briefed the importance of the conference, stating, “You are not just students; you are the future leaders of the world. The debates you participate in will shape your understanding of global issues and develop your skills as strategic leaders.”

She also encouraged delegates to use the skills gained at MUN, such as critical thinking, public speaking, negotiation, and leadership, in all aspects of their future careers. “Diplomacy and leadership are about more than winning debates; they are about shaping a better world,” she said.

Dr. Joseph further stressed the transformative nature of MUN, stating, “This conference is an experience. As delegates, you will contribute to solutions and demonstrate that complex challenges can be addressed through respectful dialogue and compromise.”

She urged students to actively participate while also embracing the art of listening, as mutual respect is key to achieving progress.

Jennifer Larson, the U.S. Consul General in Hyderabad, was the Chief Guest for the event. She commended the college for its commitment to nurturing students’ intellectual and diplomatic growth in her address.

Larson highlighted the importance of negotiation and mediation in addressing global challenges, stating, “Tackling global problems is the task of leaders.” She also discussed the strategic partnership between India and the U.S., showing how collaboration can lead to shared solutions for global issues. “This conference serves as a space for the world desperately needs dialogue. Your voice matters,” she added.
