Honduran national held for robbery bid after marrying local woman in Hyderabad

HYDERABAD: A 32-year-old Honduran national, identified as Hernandez Tabora alias Gilmer Eludin, was arrested by the Kushaiguda police on Saturday evening for allegedly attempting to rob a Western Union outlet operated by an ex-serviceman in Sainikpuri.
Police said Hernandez, an architect working in Texas, had arrived in India on September 22 to marry his fiancée from Kapra, whom he had met while studying at Alabama University (2016–18). The couple married on September 27 and were preparing to leave for the United States soon.
Ex-serviceman fought back
According to Kushaiguda detective inspector Venkateshwarulu, the accused had frequently visited the Western Union outlet run by Srinivas (57), a retired serviceman who also manages a water purifier business. On Friday evening, an armed man wearing a helmet and mask entered the shop and, at knifepoint, tried to snatch the cash bag from Srinivas.
“Srinivas resisted and struck the attacker with a water bottle. The man fled with about ₹2 lakh, but Srinivas chased him for nearly 50 metres and managed to recover the bag before he could escape on a scooter,” the officer said.
CCTV footage from nearby establishments helped police identify Hernandez, who was arrested from his in-laws’ residence in Kapra.
Already married in Honduras
Police added that Hernandez’s wife was unaware of his alleged plan. Further investigation revealed that he was already married with two children in Honduras.
A case has been registered under Section 312 (attempt to commit robbery when armed with a deadly weapon) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, and the accused will be produced before a magistrate for judicial remand.
