PNR Colony in Ameenpur wades through overflowing sewage for 10 days
HYDERABAD: Residents of PNR Colony in the Ameenpur area have been wading through overflowing sewage for ten straight days. Officials from the Cyberabad Municipal Corporation(CMC) say the jetting machine required to clear the sewer line blockage is either unavailable or under repair.
Girish Lambu, President of the PNR Members Association, follows up with CMC officials every day. Each time, they tell him the jetting machine is unavailable and will arrive soon. But ten days have passed. The sewer line still overflows, and the foul odor makes life unbearable.
Speaking to HyderabadMail, Girish Lambu said, “We are unable to step outside due to the foul smell. The road is like hell right now.” The overflowing drainage on Road 21, an internal colony road that serves as a connecting link between two neighbourhoods and sees heavy pedestrian and vehicle movement, has been a persistent problem at this location. According to Girish, the same spot had blocked and been cleared by a jetting machine once before. Now it has blocked again, and this time the machine is not available.
Jetting machine remains unavailable
Furthermore, CMC officials told him that the Ameenpur area has only a single jetting machine to serve the entire jurisdiction, a very large area with numerous colonies, and that the machine is currently under repair. The officials reportedly informed the residents that when it becomes available they will fid the issue in PNR Colony.
Residents find this explanation inadequate. Girish Lambu said “The CMC officials say that when the machine is available, they will come to work. But this is what they say every day, giving a different reason each time.”

The overflow on Road 21 is not the only sewer problem in PNR Colony. In fact, Girish says there are five different locations within the colony with sewer blockages. With just one jetting machine for the entire Ameenpur zone, it’s unlikely all five blockages will be cleared quickly.
The timing makes things worse. The monsoon is at its peak, and even light rain causes the sewer lines to overflow. Girish says these blockages occur at the same locations every year. Stagnant sewage and rainwater create ideal conditions for waterborne diseases, putting residents at risk.
Girish Lambu said, “It is rainy season and prone to infectious diseases during this time. Yet this problem is still not solved.” Meanwhile, Girish has been in regular contact with CMC through WhatsApp messages and phone calls since the drainage first overflowed ten days ago. He says the officials acknowledge the problem each time but are unable to fix it without the jetting machine.
He wants CMC to arrange another jetting machine right away, either from another zone or a private contractor. He urges them to clear all five blockages before the next heavy rain makes things worse.
