Ameenpur man loses ₹16.5 lakh in trading fraud
AMEENPUR: A resident of Sri Shubham Colony under Ameenpur police station limits lost ₹16.55 lakh after investing in online trading through a link in a Facebook advertisement.
Vikram Kumar Solanki came across the advertisement while browsing Facebook. The advertisement carried the name of the Union finance minister.
Facebook ad leads victim to WhatsApp contact
After Solanki clicked on the advertisement, he received information on WhatsApp. A person contacted him and introduced himself as an employee of a London-based company.
To gain Solanki’s trust, the person asked him to search for the company’s name on Google. He convinced Solanki that he was a genuine financial adviser and explained online trading investments to him.
Victim transfers ₹16,55,989 in multiple transactions
Solanki transferred ₹16,55,989 in several instalments. When he asked for the amount to be released, he was told to pay another ₹12,500 towards “conversion”.
Solanki then realised that he had been duped through fictitious investment returns and lodged a complaint with cyber crime police.
