Encroachments Rise on Government Land in Ameenpur

Government land encroachment in Ameenpur with survey markings and demolished structures

HYDERABAD: Encroachments on government land are increasing across Ameenpur as field-level monitoring remains inadequate. Officials said unauthorised constructions are coming up on public land because enforcement teams lack manpower and equipment.

Encroachers remove boards, continue construction

According to revenue records, Survey No. 999 in Ameenpur has about 13.13 acres of government land. Most of it has already been encroached upon. Officials recently identified fresh encroachment on 1.20 acres.
They dug a trench around the land and installed boards marking it as government property. Encroachers allegedly removed the boards and rented out the land to private individuals.

Government land in Survey Nos. 673, 993 and 994 in Ameenpur, and Survey Nos. 457/2, 630, 992 and 991 in Sultanpur, has also been occupied, officials said.

Field staff shortage hits enforcement

Residents said there is no sustained system to protect government land. Officials usually intervene only after structures come up and then carry out demolition drives, they said.
Some encroachers are reportedly generating fake house numbers or writing unrelated court order details on the structures to deter action.

Officials noted that the absence of adequate field staff, including Gram Panchayat workers, is hindering timely supervision. Based on the current situation, the revenue department estimates a requirement for at least ten more field-level staff.
Locals urged the administration to conduct a comprehensive survey, fix boundaries and install warning boards.

Officials seek additional staff

Ameenpur tahsildar Venkatesham said the matter has been brought to the notice of senior officers.
“We have prioritised the protection of government land in Ameenpur. We requested senior officers to depute additional field staff. We also wrote to municipal authorities asking them not to issue house numbers to structures raised on government land,” he said.
