Ameenpur civic woes deepen as encroachments and drainage choke key road
HYDERABAD: Residents of Ameenpur are facing a double whammy of civic neglect, raw drainage water destroying a freshly built road, and illegal commercial encroachments choking traffic.
The Ameenpur People’s Association submitted a memorandum to the Deputy Commissioner of the Ameenpur Circle requesting that the issue be addressed on a war-footing basis. Following their appeal, the association warned that without immediate action, the new road will crumble and the area will face a major traffic crisis.
In their representation, the association said drainage water is flowing from Ameenpur into the Bhandamkommu area, directly onto a recently constructed road. Residents said the constant flow of stagnant water has severely damaged the road.
Highlighting the impact, Association president Akula Thirumal Reddy said, “The road was built only recently, but drainage overflow is already destroying it. This has created severe difficulties for the public and motorists.” Damaged stretches now have cracks and potholes, making commuting hazardous, especially at night.
Adding to the civic mess, the association also flagged rampant encroachment by commercial establishments along the key road connecting Ameenpur to Bhandamkommu. According to the memorandum, shopkeepers have illegally erected signboards that protrude onto the road, and vehicles are parked haphazardly, narrowing the carriageway. This causes severe traffic disruption, frequent jams, and inconvenience for pedestrians and commuters.
Thirumal Reddy further emphasized, “Unauthorized parking and signage are causing major obstruction. This is a public road, not a private parking lot or advertising space.”
The Ameenpur People’s Association urged the Deputy Commissioner to resolve the drainage overflow immediately to prevent further road damage, remove illegal signboards and clear parked vehicles, and restore smooth traffic flow and pedestrian safety.
