Amberpet Police Officials Briefing Media On Arrest Of Four Illegal Moneylenders In Triple Suicide Case In Hyderabad

HYDERABAD: Amberpet police on March 2 arrested four alleged illegal moneylenders in connection with the February 24, 2026, triple suicide of a family in Bapu Nagar. Police booked the accused for abetment to suicide.

The case began on February 24, when Kadgekar Amulya, daughter of the deceased, filed a complaint. She informed police that her father Kadgekar Ramraj (54), mother Madhavi, and younger brother Kadgekar Shashank Raj had died at their residence.

According to Amulya, her brother’s friend alerted her on the morning of February 24 about the deaths. When she reached the house, she found her father and brother hanging from ceiling fans in separate rooms. Meanwhile, her mother lay dead on the bed in another room.

Initially, police registered a case under Crime No. 109/2026 under Section 194 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS). However, during the investigation, officers recovered suicide notes from the house. In the notes, the family allegedly blamed illegal financial demands and harassment by moneylenders for their extreme step.

Loans taken to run biryani hotels

Investigators found that the family had borrowed ₹57 lakh from private financiers to operate “King’s Biryani” outlets in Mallapur and Chakripuram. However, the lenders allegedly imposed exorbitant daily interest rates and repeatedly harassed the family over repayment.

Furthermore, police said the accused demanded excessive interest, forced the family to hand over blank cheques, promissory notes, memorandums of understanding (MoUs), and original land documents. They also allegedly made threatening phone calls and warned the family of public humiliation at their residence.

Call Data Records strengthened the case. They showed that the accused contacted the deceased multiple times on the night of February 23–24 and allegedly threatened them with serious consequences over repayment. Consequently, police altered the case to Section 108 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), which deals with abetment to suicide.

Accused allegedly admitted to high-interest lending

Police identified the accused as:

  • A-1: Mohd. Wasi Uz Zaman alias Irfan (57), a real estate and scrap businessman from Jawaharnagar, Moulali
  • A-2: P. Rajasekhara Reddy (55), a construction worker from Venkateswara Nagar Colony, Moulali
  • A-3: Mohd. Nawaz (50), a businessman from Sudhanagar Colony, Old Safilguda
  • A-4: Syed Majeed Hyder (53), an electrician from Sadullanagar, Moulali

During interrogation, the accused allegedly admitted that they lent money at high interest rates and pressured the family for repayment. In addition, they confessed that they collected blank cheques, promissory notes, and property documents as collateral, police said.

Documents and phones seized

Police seized 12 blank cheques issued by the deceased, six unsigned promissory notes, three MoUs, one mortgage-cum-loan agreement, bond papers, and mobile phones that the accused allegedly used to threaten the family.

Moreover, officers recovered original land documents related to three acres of agricultural land in Gandhimall village of Yadadri Bhuvanagiri district.

According to investigators, continuous harassment, unlawful financial pressure, and repeated threats caused severe mental trauma to the family and ultimately drove them to suicide.

Police produced all four accused before a court, which remanded them to judicial custody. Meanwhile, investigators continue to probe the financial transactions and communication records.

Deputy Commissioner of Police Rakshitha Krishna Murthy supervised the arrests. Additional DCP J. Narasaiah and Assistant Commissioner of Police G. Jagan coordinated the operation, while Inspector T. Kiran Kumar of Amberpet police station and Detective Inspector Mohd Hafeezuddin assisted in the investigation.
