HYDERABAD : A private employee from Old Bowenpally allegedly lost ₹52.89 lakh to cyber fraudsters who promised high returns through online trading and investment schemes.

Police said Anjuri Chard D’Silva, 43, a resident of Sai Sagar Colony in Old Bowenpally, approached the Malkajgiri Cyber Crime Police Station with a complaint.

According to the complaint, she clicked on a link carrying the names of prominent personalities, including Infosys founders N. R. Narayana Murthy and Sudha Murty, and Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman. She later registered on a website by providing her personal details.

Victim invests lakhs after initial returns

She subsequently received calls from unidentified persons claiming to represent a trading company named Venzuron. The callers allegedly persuaded her to invest 250 US dollars through an Axis Bank credit card for online trading.

The suspects conducted Zoom meetings using UK phone numbers and provided access to trading dashboards. After small profits were credited to her account, she gained confidence in the platform and continued investing.

Police said she invested lakhs of rupees between October 2024 and February 2025. To make the investments, she also obtained loans from multiple banks.

Suspects vanish after demanding more money

The accused, who introduced themselves as Rizwana and Umar, allegedly displayed fake profits and trading activity on the platform. Later, they demanded additional investments to release the promised returns.

Despite investing more money, she did not receive any profits. The suspects subsequently became unreachable.

Realising that she had allegedly fallen victim to a cyber fraud, the woman lodged a complaint with the police, who have initiated an investigation.
