Hyderabad Stampede at Pushpa 2 Premiere Claims Life

Hyderabad: Tollywood actor Allu Arjun has moved Telangana High Court seeking to quash an FIR registered against him in connection with the death of a woman Revathi during the benefit show of ‘Pushpa 2: The Rule’ at Sandhya theatre in Hyderabad.

In his plea, the Pushpa actor appealed to the court to quash the FIR and sought a stay on all further proceedings, including arrest, pending the disposal of the petition. The matter will be heard in the coming days.

On the evening of December 4, Allu Arjun watched the premier show of his movie along with the fans at the theatre. Noticing the actor’s presence, a large crowd of fans jostled to catch a glimpse of him which led to chaotic scenes in the theatre. The fan frenzy resulted in the death of a 35-year-old woman, identified as Revathi, due to asphyxiation and her eight-year-old son fell conscious.

The woman along with her husband Bhaskar and two kids came to Sandhya theatre to catch the benefit show of Pushpa 2. Following a complaint by Bhaskar, Chikkadpally police registered a case against Allu Arjun, his security personnel, and the theatre management under Sections 105 and 118 (1) of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS). After a preliminary probe, the police arrested three employees of the theatre including its owner.

Earlier, the theatre management filed a plea in the High Court and requested the court to quash the FIR against them. The counsel representing the owner of Sandhya Theatre contended that the premiere show was arranged by the distributors of Allu Arjun’s Pushpa 2: The Rule movie and they were not responsible for running the show. They even requested the police for bandobust but inadequate police force was deployed at the theatre.
