Actor Allu Arjun appears before Chikkadapally police in Sandhya Theatre stampede case

Hyderabad: Actor Allu Arjun appeared before the Chikkadapally police on Tuesday, December 24, 2024, in connection with the investigation into the Sandhya Theatre stampede. The actor, who was arrested earlier, is out on interim bail, with the condition that he cooperate with the investigation.

The police had served a formal notice to Allu Arjun, summoning him for questioning at 11:00 a.m. on December 24. Following the notice, there was increased activity at the actor’s residence, with family members and legal representatives preparing for the inquiry. Media reports also showed legal representatives arriving at the actor’s home.

Protest at Allu Arjun’s Residence

On December 22, 2024, a group of protesters gathered at Allu Arjun’s residence, demanding justice for the victim’s family. They chanted slogans like “Justice for Revathi’s family” and “Khabardar Allu Arjun,” while also causing damage to flower pots inside the house. The protesters, claiming to be part of the OU-JAC, said their demonstration was in support of the victim’s family.
A case has been filed against six individuals involved in the protest, and they were later arrested and granted bail.

The Sandhya Theatre Incident

The stampede occurred on December 4, 2024, during the premiere of Pushpa 2: The Rule at Sandhya Theatre near RTC X Roads. The incident resulted in the death of Revathi and left her son, Sritej, critically injured.

Allu Arjun was initially arrested in connection with the incident but was later granted interim bail. The incident has attracted significant attention from the public and authorities.

Actor Responds to Criticism

On December 21, 2024, Allu Arjun addressed the media after Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy’s remarks in the Assembly about the incident. While the Chief Minister did not directly mention Allu Arjun, he criticised the stampede and indirectly pointed to the actor.

Allu Arjun expressed his shock and said he was unaware of the stampede during the premiere. “It was an unfortunate accident. No one is at fault. It was purely an accident,” he said. The actor explained that he learned about the incident the following day and was deeply saddened by it.

He also denied the allegations made against him, calling them false. “I have not made the statements attributed to me. This is an attempt at character assassination,” he said.

Chief Minister Condemns Attack on Residence

Chief Minister Revanth Reddy condemned the attack on Allu Arjun’s residence by the protesters. While he did not directly name the actor, he expressed disapproval of the incident and directed the State DGP and City Police Commissioner to take strict action to maintain law and order.

Revanth Reddy also criticised comments made by Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Sabbathi Vishnumurthy regarding Allu Arjun’s description of the stampede. The Chief Minister warned police officials not to comment on the case unless directly involved in the investigation.

The investigation into the Sandhya Theatre stampede is ongoing.
