Alkapur residents demand removal of illegal shops in Manikonda

Manikonda: Residents of Alkapur in Manikonda are demanding action from the Manikonda Municipality authorities to remove illegally constructed shops in Dwaraka Residency, near Scholars International School, Kyettaian Gouda Nilayam, Alkapur, and Raghavendra Colony.
These unauthorized shops are causing major traffic concerns for residents. The main road connecting the area narrows significantly due to the presence of these shops. Parked vehicles from customers visiting the shops further obstruct traffic flow, posing a safety hazard for commuters.
Speaking to the Hyderabad Mail, Venkat Mamilla, a resident and admin of Mana Manikonda, highlighted the issue. He said the road near Begonia Homes, a multi-story apartment complex, was supposed to be 100 feet wide. However, the construction was somehow approved despite not meeting the width requirement.
Venkat further criticized the new commissioner’s inaction. He said, “I am a taxpayer of Manikonda municipality. Not a single RTI application of mine has been replied to. Despite repeated follow-ups, I haven’t even received a copy of the budget.”
Venkat filed an official complaint with the Commissioner regarding the illegal shutters in Ward 18, opposite Begonia Homes in Dwaraka Residency. He said that Ward 9 Councillor Kovela Shrikanth Swami had also reported the matter to the Commissioner via WhatsApp and social media on June 25, 2024.
The complaint details the problems caused by the illegal structures. Due to the shutters, the lane narrows from 40 feet to just 10 feet near the Good Sports Academy. This is causing severe traffic congestion on the main road used by Alkapur residents.

Venkat further urged the Municipal Commissioner to take immediate action to investigate the legality of these shops. He demanded the removal of any unauthorized constructions to restore the entire width of the road. He also called for legal action against those responsible and measures to prevent similar incidents in the future.
Residents of Manikonda have highlighted the urgency of this issue, stating that it significantly affects their daily lives and the overall urban planning of the area. They have appealed to the authorities for a prompt response and action.
