Akbaruddin Owaisi seeks Hyderabad traffic solution

Hyderabad: AIMIM floor leader Akbaruddin Owaisi on Monday in the state legislative assembly called for an urgent need to find a solution for the traffic woes. Owaisi added that this is hindering the incoming investments in the area.

Speaking in the Assembly about the traffic woes, legislator Akbaruddin Owaisi, said “The traffic congestion due to water stagnation has worsened without a dedicated budget for such emergencies. Simply widening roads and constructing flyovers will not solve the traffic congestion problem. Public mode of transport is very weak. The focus should be on improving public transportation, including RTC buses, MMTS trains, and the metro.”

Owaisi further stressed that before the formation of Telangana, Hyderabad city had over 4,000 buses plying on city roads, but now there are less than 2,000 buses. “This decrease had led to an increase in cars and two-wheelers, exacerbating traffic congestion. We need to convene a meeting of experts to find a solution,” Owaisi points out.

He further added that investors are turning their backs due to severe traffic congestion, as it takes a person to travel hours to reach from one part of the city. “This shouldn’t be our case. We risk facing the same situation in Hyderabad if we do not address these problems. Hyderabad’s traffic congestion could deter IT companies from investing in the city,” added Owaisi.

Chandrayangutta legislator Akbaruddin Owaisi thanked the Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy for releasing Rs 200 crore for road widening works in the Old City. However he stated that those funds will be utilized for the already completed works as the checkers are due for the contractors. He further requested for an additional Rs 300 cores for the road widening works in the old city.

Further speaking about the repairs that are necessitated in Monsoon season, Owaisi said, “Every metro city should have a special monsoon fund to handle emergency repairs of roads and drainage systems. Unfortunately, despite continuous reminders to GHMC, no special funds have been allocated for monsoon repairs.”
