Air India flight from Hyderabad to Tirupati makes emergency landing

Hyderabad: An Air India flight from Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA) in Hyderabad to Tirupati was forced to make an emergency landing on Tuesday, September 24, 2024, following a technical issue mid-air.

The flight has been identified as 9I 877, an ATR-72-600 aircraft. It had a scheduled boarding time of 5:35 a.m. and took off from Hyderabad at 6:30 a.m. Shortly after takeoff, the pilot detected a technical problem with the aircraft engine.

The aircraft successfully executed an emergency landing at Shamshabad Airport around 8:30 a.m. All passengers aboard the flight were reported to be safe and unharmed. However, passengers at the airport expressed concerns about the lack of assistance. Despite waiting for several hours, passengers claimed to have received no support from the airline.

The exact nature of the technical issue is currently under investigation. Air India has not yet released an official statement regarding the incident.

Earlier, Air India had previously announced on ‘X,’ formerly known as Twitter, that starting September 9, customers traveling with Air India Group Airlines can avail of city-side Check-in at Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA) in Hyderabad. Passengers can check in and drop off their bags as early as six hours and up to 90 minutes before their flight, allowing them to skip baggage hassles and make the most of their time at the airport.

In another incident, passengers of Akasa Airlines at RGIA expressed growing concern on July 22, 2024, due to a significant delay in their flight to Delhi. Tensions escalated as passengers engaged in disputes with airline staff over the lack of clarity regarding their delayed flight. Passengers alleged that staff members, who had previously issued boarding passes, were now providing inconsistent information about the flight’s status, leaving travelers anxious and frustrated. The scheduled departure time for the flight to Delhi was 5:00 a.m., but the aircraft had not yet arrived, prompting passengers to urgently demand alternative travel arrangements. Dissatisfied with the responses received from airline personnel, they insisted on being accommodated on other available flights.
