Hyderabad : The All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) has announced its support to the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) alliance in the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections scheduled for April 23.

Member of Parliament Asaduddin Owaisi said the party would back the alliance led by Chief Minister M K Stalin.

Appeal to voters ahead of polling day

Owaisi urged voters to cast their ballots in favour of DMK candidates, calling for consolidation of votes behind the alliance. He said AIMIM supporters should ensure that the DMK alliance secures a strong mandate.

He added that the support reflects the party’s broader approach of aligning with regional forces in key state elections.

Political context and alliance dynamics in state

Tamil Nadu has traditionally witnessed bipolar contests led by the DMK and the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK). Smaller parties often extend support to one of the major alliances to strengthen electoral prospects.

AIMIM’s backing, though not significant in terms of vote share in the state, is viewed as a symbolic endorsement of the DMK-led front.

The DMK, under Stalin’s leadership, is seeking to retain its position in the state, with alliances playing a crucial role in electoral arithmetic.
