Poor ailing woman denied treatment at Osmania Hospital for lack of Aadhaar card

Hyderabad: Despite government’s repeated reminders, the patients continue to suffer as hospitals insist on Aadhaar card for providing medical care.
In a recent heart-wrenching incident, a woman suffering from severe health issues was reportedly denied treatment at the state-run Osmania Hospital in Hyderabad, because she did not possess an Aadhaar card.
The patient and her six-year-old daughter were forced to take shelter outside the hospital. The ailing woman, identified as Prameela from Maredpally in Mahabubnagar district, lost her husband Suresh a few months ago due to illness, and just a month later, her nine-year-old son Chandu was killed in a road accident.
Left without support after losing her sole breadwinner, Prameela shifted to Hyderabad with her six-year-old daughter, Anusha, to earn a livelihood. She took up labour jobs to survive in the city and when she did not find work, she started begging on streets to feed herself and her child.
Over the weeks, Prameela fell seriously ill and came to Osmania Hospital for treatment, however, thes staff denied admission to her because she did not have an Aadhaar card. With nowhere else to go, she has been lying outside the hospital on the bare ground for the past ten days. Both the ailing woman and her daughter Anusha are forced to live on the street and rely on food donations from generous people.
