AI cameras to monitor traffic violations on PVNR Expressway
HYDERABAD: The Hyderabad police are set to introduce artificial intelligence-based traffic cameras to detect violations on city roads. The cameras will automatically identify motorists who talk on mobile phones while driving, fail to wear seat belts, or exceed speed limits, and fines will be issued accordingly.
As a pilot project, the city police have requested the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority to install AI-enabled cameras on the PVNR Expressway.
Full stretch under surveillance
The PVNR Expressway, which runs from Mehdipatnam to Aramghar, spans 11 km. The proposal aims to ensure complete coverage of the elevated corridor through advanced surveillance systems.
Crackdown on rash driving
Motorists on the PVNR Expressway have been driving recklessly, causing inconvenience and danger to other road users. Police said rash driving, unauthorised stopping of vehicles, and phone use while driving have led to frequent accidents on the stretch, resulting in loss of lives.
In response, the police plan strict enforcement against violators. Acting on the police request, the HMDA has initiated steps to install new-generation, multi-dimensional AI cameras along the PVNR Expressway to curb violations and improve road safety.
