Agricultural university governing council meeting on exam paper leak

HYDERABAD: The governing council of an agricultural university has decided to approach Shivadhar Reddy, Director General of Police, seeking a comprehensive inquiry into the leak of BSc third year semester question papers that triggered statewide concern.

Based on a preliminary inquiry, the university had earlier suspended the principal of Jagtial Agricultural College Bharati, professor Satyanarayana Reddy, and staff members Karthik and Ramesh Srinu of Warangal Agricultural College. The admissions of 35 in-service Agricultural Extension Officer (AEO) candidates who appeared for examinations using leaked question papers were also cancelled.

The affected candidates included eight from Jagtial, six from Warangal, nine from Palem, two from Adilabad, four from Rajendranagar, and three each from Sircilla and Aswaraopeta.

The decision was taken at a governing council meeting held on Saturday under the chairmanship of vice-chancellor Janayya. The council resolved to request the DGP to entrust the case to an appropriate investigation agency for a detailed probe. The university registrar is expected to submit a formal complaint to the DGP within a day or two.

The governing council has also submitted a detailed report on the leak to the state agriculture department. The report outlines how the leak occurred, how it came to light, who wrote the examinations using the leaked papers, and the actions taken by the university. The council has urged that the 35 AEOs be removed from service.

Meanwhile, BSc second-year semester examinations are scheduled to begin from the 19th of this month. In view of the recent incident, the governing council has decided to introduce a new system for question paper preparation, security and distribution. Measures will include appointing new invigilators, strict candidate checks and deploying special sitting squads to ensure foolproof conduct of the examinations.
