Child Safety At Medaram Jathara

HYDERABAD: With a massive influx of devotees expected for the Medaram Jathara, the Hyderabad City Police has launched a child safety initiative to prevent children from getting separated in large crowds.

As part of the initiative, the Afzalgunj police on January 27, 2026, inaugurated a dedicated stall at the Mahatma Gandhi Bus Station at 11.00 IST to issue identification wristbands for children travelling to the Jathara.

The programme is being implemented by the Hyderabad City Police in association with VI (Vodafone Idea) cellular network.

The stall was inaugurated by G. Chandra Mohan, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Golconda Zone. Senior officials present included Krishna Goud, additional DCP, Golconda Zone; Shyam Babu, additional DCP, Special Intelligence Branch; S. Sudershan, assistant commissioner of police, Goshamahal division; N. Ravi, inspector of police and station house officer, Afzalgunj police station; and J. Srilatha, regional manager, MGBS.

Under the initiative, each wristband carries a unique QR code generated after collecting basic details at the stall. The information stored includes the child’s name, parent or guardian’s name, contact mobile number and residential address.

Police officials said that if a child gets separated from family members in the heavy crowds at the Medaram Jathara, personnel or volunteers can scan the QR code to quickly identify the child and reunite them with their family.

The Afzalgunj police appealed to parents and guardians travelling via MGBS to make use of the facility and obtain wristbands for their children to ensure a safe and worry-free pilgrimage.
