Vigilance officials inspect rice mills in Adilabad after ₹1.39-crore paddy procurement scam

ADILABAD: Officials from the vigilance wing of the Civil Supplies department inspected records at several rice mills in Jaipur and Chennur mandals on Friday and Saturday.

Checks focus on custom milling permissions

A team led by a deputy superintendent of police–rank officer examined mills permitted to undertake custom rice milling and procure paddy from farmers at Tekumatla, Indaram, Kundaram and Maddulapalli in Jaipur mandal, and at multiple locations in Chennur mandal. Officials verified records of paddy purchased and rice milled and checked stocks of fine and coarse varieties.

Probe follows ₹1.39-crore fraud at procurement centre

The inspections gained significance after irregularities surfaced recently at a procurement centre in Jaipur mandal. Officials alleged that ₹1.39 crore was siphoned off by fabricating records at a centre catering to Narsingapur and Maddulapalli villages in November.

A case was registered against 13 persons based on a complaint by officials. One accused, rice mill owner Thatipalli Saikumar, has been arrested for his alleged role in the scam.

Police inspector suspended

Srirampur police station inspector G Venuchandar was suspended for allegedly diluting the case, officials said.
