Adilabad police enforce election rules against firecracker violations

ADILABAD: Police have booked a municipal councillor candidate and five others for bursting firecrackers without permission in violation of election rules, Two Town Circle Inspector K Nagaraju said on February 8.

Firecrackers burst without permission

The case was registered at the Two Town police station following a complaint by the Flying Squad Team during municipal election enforcement. The incident occurred on the intervening night in Khurshid Nagar ward number 16.

The accused include councillor candidate Shahida Shaikh, wife of Salim, along with Salim, Harbaz, Riyaz, Gaffar and Mohsin. Police said firecrackers were burst without obtaining mandatory permission, violating the Model Code of Conduct.

No leniency during elections

Circle Inspector Nagaraju said organising rallies or public meetings, bursting firecrackers, and continuing campaign activities beyond permitted hours without authorisation during elections are offences under law.

He warned that there would be no leniency for violations of election rules and said strict legal action would be taken against those found flouting the code.

Police appealed to candidates and the public to strictly follow election guidelines, stating that any act disturbing law and order during the election period would not be tolerated.
