ADILABAD: A visually impaired candidate from Vidyanagar in Adilabad town has cleared the Group-2 examination and secured a government job through sheer determination and listening-based preparation.

Blind candidate clears Group-2 exam with listening method

Prodduturi Suchendran Reddy has been selected as Assistant Tribal Welfare Officer under the Multi-Zone-1 special category quota. He attended the exam with the help of a scribe and emerged successful.

Lost eyesight in childhood, pursued studies by listening

Suchendran lost his vision in Class 4 due to a drug reaction. His parents — father Narayana Reddy, a retired teacher, and mother Rajini, a government teacher — ensured his schooling up to Class 10 at a blind school in Hyderabad. Later, from Intermediate to Postgraduate studies, he relied only on listening to lessons and cleared all exams.

Preparing for Civil Services alongside PhD

Currently pursuing a PhD at Jawaharlal Nehru University in Delhi, Suchendran said he used special screen-reading software for preparation. He had secured an All India Rank of 742 in the 2018 Civil Services exam, but was denied posting as no provision existed for fully blind candidates. He has approached the court and is awaiting judgment.

“My ultimate goal is to clear the Civil Services,” he told reporters.
