ACB raids RTA check posts across Telangana, seizes ₹4.1 lakh

HYDERABAD: Acting on credible information, the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) conducted simultaneous surprise checks at several Road Transport Authority (RTA) check posts across Telangana on the intervening night of October 18 and 19, 2025.
According to officials, the operation followed reports that RTA staff were allegedly collecting illegal gratification from lorry drivers and transport vehicle owners through private intermediaries.
Raids across 12 districts
The searches were carried out at 12 RTA check posts — Vishunupuram (Wadapalli) in Nalgonda, Kodad in Suryapet, Krishna in Narayanpet, Bhoraj in Adilabad, Bhainsa in Nirmal, Wankhidi in Komram Bheem-Asifabad, Salabatpur–Maddunur and Pendurthy in Kamareddy, Zaheerabad in Sangareddy, Palvoncha and Aswaraopet in Bhadradri-Kothagudem, and Muthugudem (Penuballi) in Khammam district.
Officials said the operation revealed a systematic practice where drivers routinely offered cash to secure passage, indicating a long-standing network of extortion and negligence of duty by certain RTA personnel.
Cash seizure and follow-up action
During the course of the searches, the ACB recovered an unaccounted amount of ₹4,18,880. The team will send a detailed report to the state government recommending appropriate action against those found responsible.
The ACB noted that some RTA officials were allegedly allowing private agents to stop vehicles and collect money on their behalf.
