ACB flags record lapses, pending medical bills in Medak district hospital raid
HYDERABAD: Officials of the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB), Telangana, conducted a surprise check at the District Government Hospital’s Medical Reimbursement Section in Medak town on March 13, 2026, and detected several procedural lapses.
The inspection, carried out by ACB officials of the Medak Range, found that the outward register had been maintained only up to January 5, 2026, raising concerns over record management.
Medical reimbursement bills pending with superintendent
Officials noted that sanctioned medical reimbursement bills are required to be sent to the respective heads of departments. However, the hospital office was issuing these bills individually without maintaining the required register.
According to the inward register, the office received 1,053 medical reimbursement bills between March 2025 and March 5, 2026. Of these, 529 bills were disbursed, while the remaining bills were still pending with the superintendent.
Records missing for medico-legal certificates
The ACB also found lapses in maintaining records of medico-legal cases (MLC). A total of 156 MLC cases were registered during January and February 2026, but officials had not maintained a proper register showing how many certificates were issued in these cases.
Drug procurement and staff attendance under scrutiny
The District Government Hospital, functioning under Telangana Vaidya Vidhana Parishad (TVVP), had entered into an agreement with local pharmacy vendors on March 10, 2025, for the supply of medicines and other items. Purchases worth ₹50,87,088 have been made so far, and the transactions are under verification.
During the inspection, the ACB also found that attendance for six outsourcing employees had been marked as present despite their absence from duty. This issue is also under verification.
The ACB said a report would be submitted to the government recommending necessary action against those responsible for the irregularities.
