ACB conducts surprise raid on Kamareddy Municipal Commissioner’s office

HYDERABAD: On March 16, 2026, the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) Nizamabad Range carried out a surprise inspection at the office of the Municipal Commissioner, Kamareddy Municipality, in Kamareddy district. They acted after receiving credible information about irregularities in office operations.
The officials checked records, financial transactions, pending applications, and day-to-day operations. They found several problems. For example, during 2025 and 2026, the municipality received 47 complaints about unauthorised constructions. However, most of these complaints remained unresolved even after notices were issued.
Moreover, over 400 commercial shops had not renewed their trade licences in 2025–26, creating dues of about ₹1 crore. Field checks also revealed mistakes in property tax assessments, which caused a significant loss of government revenue.
The municipality spent ₹12.4 lakh per month on fuel, yet the officials failed to keep proper records. Additionally, some outsourced employees were marked absent on certain days, but their salaries still showed full-month payments.
From December 2025 onwards, the municipality received 169 building permission applications. Out of these, 18 applications took longer than the prescribed 21-day processing period, showing delays in decision-making.
The ACB will submit a report to the government, recommending action against the officials responsible for these issues.
