HYDERABAD: Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) all-rounder Abhishek Sharma lost 25% of his match fee and received one demerit point after an incident during the match against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at Eden Gardens.

What exactly happened?

The Indian Premier League (IPL) said Sharma committed a Level 1 offence under Article 2.3 of its Code of Conduct. This rule deals with the use of audible obscenities during a match. The league did not disclose the exact moment of the incident. Sharma admitted the breach and accepted the match referee’s decision.

Sharma will lose 25% of his match fee. Officials also added one demerit point to his record. Level 1 offences are minor but still recorded. Repeated violations can invite stricter action. KKR failed to chase the steep target. The team got bowled out for 161 in 16 overs. SRH secured a convincing 65-run win. Angkrish Raghuvanshi scored 52 for KKR but lacked support. Jaydev Unadkat led SRH’s bowling with 3 for 21. Nitish Kumar Reddy and Eshan Malinga took two wickets each.
