Hyderabad: The Drugs Control Administration (DCA) of Telangana conducted a raid on December 24, 2024, at an unlicensed dental clinic in Chandanagar, Rangareddy District, where officials found a large stock of medicines being sold illegally.
The premises, operating without a valid drug license, was found to be storing 11 types of medicines, including antibiotics, analgesics, and anti-ulcer drugs. The total value of the seized stock is estimated at ₹15,000.
A. Shylaja Rani, a Drug Inspector from Serilingampally, and D. Swetha Bindu, a Drug Inspector from Gandipet, carried out the raid. Samples of the seized medicines have been sent for analysis, and further investigation is ongoing. In accordance with the Drugs and Cosmetics Act, legal action will be taken against those involved.

Overpriced Medicine Seized in Secunderabad
In a separate operation, DCA officials seized ‘ITRAMEN-200 Capsules’ (Itraconazole 200 mg) from a medical shop in Bandimet, Secunderabad, for selling the product at an inflated price. The Maximum Retail Price (MRP) of the capsules was ₹350 for a pack of 10, while the ceiling price set by the National Pharmaceutical Pricing Authority (NPPA) is ₹247.70 for 10 capsules, including GST. The overcharge amounted to ₹102.23 per pack.

The DCA highlights that overpricing essential medicines is a violation of the Drugs (Prices Control) Order, 2013, and the accused face strict penalties.
Misleading Advertisement Leads to Seizure in Nagarkurnool
In a third case, DCA officials seized ‘Neem Churnam,’ an Ayurvedic medicine, for falsely claiming that it treats ‘fevers.’ The product, manufactured by Arogya Rama Herbals in Shamirpet, violated the Drugs and Magic Remedies (Objectionable Advertisements) Act, 1954, which prohibits misleading advertisements for certain medicines.
