HYDERABAD: A local court in Ranga Reddy district on October 28, 2025, sentenced two men from Bihar to 14 years’ imprisonment and imposed a fine of ₹1,000 each in a child labour case investigated by Balapur police under the Rachakonda Commissionerate.

The VIII Additional District Judge at L.B. Nagar convicted Md Atik, 32, and his brother Md Akeel, 28 both residents of Venkatapur X Road, Balapur for trafficking and employing minor boys in a bangle manufacturing unit. They were found guilty under Sections 370(5), 374 and 109 of the Indian Penal Code, Section 79 of the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act, and Section 14(1) of the Child Labour (Prohibition and Regulation) Act.

Five minors rescued from illegal unit

On June 18, 2022, police and Child Line officials conducted a raid on houses near Venkatapur X Road based on credible information. They rescued five children identified as Shahajada, Md Ahmad, Ehtasham Alam, Md Arbaj and Mohd Ajim who were allegedly confined and forced to work more than 10 hours a day in unsafe and unhygienic conditions.

Investigators found that the accused were operating without valid licences, while the house owner, identified as Syed Pasha, was aware of the illegal activity. The accused were arrested and remanded in judicial custody following the investigation.

CP warns factory owners

Rachakonda police commissioner G Sudheer Babu, IPS, appreciated investigation officer B Srikanth (now with Vanasthalipuram Traffic Police Station), additional public prosecutors Padmaja Reddy and Ganga Reddy, and other staff involved in securing the conviction. He also announced rewards for them.

The commissioner warned factory and establishment owners against employing children in hazardous conditions, saying violators would face strict legal action.
